Le MNM récompensé aux prix Opus

La SMCQ est heureuse d’avoir vu le concert Le Quatuor selon la seconde école de Vienne (Coproduction Quatuor Molinari / festival MNM) remporter le prix du Concert de l’année. Du côté des compositeurs, André Hamel a reçu le prix de la création de l’année pour sa pièce Vingt-et-une courtes pièces sur des textes d’Étienne Lalonde, interprétée dans le cadre de MNM 2013; tandis que Maxime McKinley remportait le titre du compositeur de l’année. Et toutes nos félicitations à nos confrères du milieu musical qui se sont illustrés aux prix Opus et que l’on retrouve aussi cette année dans la Série hommage (Les Violons du Roy, l’Orchestre symphonique de Trois-Rivières, l’Orchestre symphonique de Laval et l’OSM).

MNM Festival 2015: Call for proposals

The SMCQ plans well in advance! Walter Boudreau and the Artistic Committee is already working on the 2015 Montreal/New Music International Festival. The theme for the 7th Edition: Surroundings and New Technologies. Have you any suggestions for creative music projects that would suit this theme? You are invited to submit them by completing the online form. A selection will be made from among all received proposals by the Artistic Commitee and its Directors, and participants will be advised during the three months following the September 6th submissions closing date. Send us your ideas!

Montreal/New Music Critics: and the winner is…

On the occasion of the MNM festival, the SMCQ and the OIRCM launched its first ever music critique competition aimed at students. Take a look at 5 proposals from our budding festival critics along with that of winner Emmanuelle Piedboeuf who received a $1,000 prize jointly awarded by both organizations.

Composing in the Present!

The SMCQ has been moving in step with the lively rhythms of new music for almost fifty years. With its regular concert season, its Série hommage (Homage Series), an international festival, and a young listener’s programme, the society has served both as a platform for today’s composers and as a window on creative works for everyone.
