Regarder 24 Hour Psycho

Photo: Sophie Bélair Clément

Sophie Bélair Clément, in collaboration with composer Olivier Girouard, proposes a re-reading of a clip from Douglas Gordon’s video 24 Hour Psycho (1993), itself borrowed from Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho. She films the slowed-down acting and reconstructs in real time each shot of the sequence as a series of micro-performances for the camera, while an orchestra tackles the problem of playing what remains of the excessively stretched out soundtrack. This process restores the dramatic tension that was completely evacuated in Gordon’s video. Dazibao is a centre dedicated to the dissemination of contemporary photography that promotes the development of hybrid artistic practices. The current project has grown out of a residency program in collaboration with PRIM.

This exhibit runs until April 4, 2009. The gallery is open Tuesdays to Saturdays from noon to 5pm.
