Coproduction Constantinople / MNM
As part of teh Montreal High Lights festival
In the sixth century b.c., musician and poetess Sappho wrote and sang: Someone will remember us, I say, even in another time. Along with Constantinople, clarinet player Lori Freedman, and Greek singer Savina Yannatou, remember this Night of a thousand ears she depicted more than 2500 years ago. Rereadings and improvisations inspired by ancient musical fragments and poetry await you! Constantinople is an ensemble committed to both new music and to the performance of medieval and renaissance works. The group’s repertoire also includes pieces from the Mediterranean area and Asia.
The SMCQ has been moving in step with the lively rhythms of new music for over forty-five years. With its regular concert season, its Série hommage (Homage Series), an international festival, and a young listener’s programme, the society has served both as a platform for today’s composers and as a window on creative works for everyone.
