Coproduction Quasar / MNM, in collaboration with Viva Voce
Celebrating 15 years together, members of the Quasar saxophone quartet are putting their “extra-conjugal” relationships on display. Fascinating saxophone virtuosity will flirt with illustrious guests who bring both voice and breath to a delirious work by the Italian master Luciano Berio: a musical monument! Quasar will also unveil new music by Gilles Tremblay, a real legend on the Québécois music scene. Add Moritz Eggert’s explosive Beatles tribute to the mix, and the result is an aural “full sweep”! Renowned for its energy, daring, and technical abilities, Quasar has dedicated its efforts to new music and the promotion of contemporary works since 1994.
Jean-François Laporte, Procession (2002)
Moritz Eggert, Skelter (1997)
saxophone quartet (two alto saxophones, two baritone saxophones)
Gilles Tremblay, Levées (2009) (premiere)
Commission: Quasar, with support from the CCA
Luciano Berio, Canticum Novissimi Testamenti II (1989)

Directed by Véronique Lacroix, flautists of the Alizée ensemble with celliste Marie-Eve Bock will perform the winning work from the Prix Québec-Flandre contemporary music competition, Analia Llugdar’s Le Chêne et le Roseau. The jury was really taken in by the work’s playful character and daring writing, all inspired by Jean de Lafontaine’s fable.
