Together with British Columbia’s Aventa ensemble, the ECM and conductor Véronique Lacroix will perform Michel Gonneville’s masterful Adonwe. Originally premiered by Marc-André Hamelin and the ECM in 1994, this key work in the composer’s oeuvre will feature the young and brilliant pianist Jacynthe Riverin. There can be no better way to celebrate the anniversary of a Montreal ensemble that has been at the service of musical creativity and upcoming artists for the past 20 years.

Directed by William Linwood, the Aventa ensemble has a wide range of repertoire in store for the first half of the concert: Pong, by the German Moritz Eggert — a featured composer for the 2007 MNM; Il suono blu, commissioned from Giorgio Magnanensi (Italy and Canada) with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, Danish composer Poul Ruders’s Abysm, and Moon-Pain by Klaus Lb Jorgensen from the same country. This final work will be an occasion to year the young Canadian soprano Janice Jackson, who specializes in contemporary music.
