“Acousmatic art is a sonic art. Works of this category are works of support: they are only made manifest through the reading of the support on which the works are recorded, fixed in a definite form. This support is to the acousmatic musician what stone is to a sculptor, canvas to a painter, proofs to photographer, film stock to a director. As the sculptor approaches his medium, the acousmatic musician cuts and trims through the material of sound; he constructs, and he often diverts.” (Denis Dufour et Thomas Brando.)
“Here, chosen for this concert-recital, are some of my most recent compositions, framed by short pieces from times gone by (I mean from the twentieth century!). All of the works can be heard as figures of time and of fantasy, concrete or imagined. There is time that presses forward then flees - that hammers and strikes - that unfurls like a wave - that pulls back and inverts - that splashes and sparks - that streams into raindrops - that pours - that forms into beads - that squirts in jolts - that whirls in a whirlwind - that evaporates …” (François Bayle.)
And then, with the compositions of Parmegiani, we encounter “passages that are both fluid and solid; movements embodying flux-reflux, inhalation-exhalation, evoking notions of “inside- outside,” through which several sound-symbols are expressed: in phase/out of phase; respiration; doors: gateways for transition; waves: internal-external energy; sonorous crescendos: the distant; the nearby, the approach.” (Bernard Parmegiani)
